New Campaign to Support African American Business
The Houston Black Book African American Business Directory is launching a new campaign, designed to help consumers promote and support black-owned businesses, especially those in the African American community.

KYW's Karin Phillips reports at least one survey estimates that there are 1 million African American businesses in the United States, which account for over $100 billion in annual sales.  However, only 10 percent of the dollars earned by African Americans go to support black-owned businesses.  So the Houston Black Book along with other African American Chambers of Commerce are launching Reverse 90, urging African American consumers and others to be more conscious of where their money is going.

"It's not just saying go support these businesses regardless of the quality of service that you receive, but saying go support these businesses knowing that at the same time we're working to help them improve their business.”
